Pomp @ the Launch of the Uganda pavilion at the Cop 28 in Dubai.

On 30th November 2023, Uganda launched its pavilion at the ongoing COP 28 event in Dubai. The event was attended by several high level delegates from Uganda representing key ministry agencies and departments. This event kickstarted presentations on Uganda’s pronouncements in response to climate change.

Mr. Okidi Alfred ,the Permanent secretary ,Ministry of Water and Environment welcomed delegates and thanked the U.AE government for the cordial working relations .” We extend our appreciation to the government of the United Arab Emirates for the support in securing the pavilion at COP 28.” Said Alfred.

The prime Minister of Uganda ,Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabanja was the chief guest at the opening was represented by the state Minister for Energy ,Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa to deliver the keynote speech. In her address as the chief guest,she echoed Uganda’s progress in advancing Uganda’s target to zero emissions footprint  by 2030.

As part of her presentation, She thanked the  the parliamentary forum on the mandatory requirement that every project to be approved in Uganda must have a climate certificate of compliance . This she explained that is in addition to the gender and financial certificates, noting that this will ensure better regulation of activities that are less harmful to our environment.

She called on world leaders to fullfill pledges from COP 27 ,Highlighting finance as the missing link to effective dealing with the climate crisis.

H.E Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Nahyan Al Nahyan ,the representative of the U.A.E government appreciated and welcomed delegates .He said that his government gives Uganda the assurance of progressively strengthening relations to support  responsible trade, technology transfer in Uganda’s fight in dealing with climate change.
