‘’ switch on Africa ‘’- a campaign to activate Uganda’s clean energy potential

Ms. Patricia Nanteza,the Executive Director of  Replanet Africa ,a cross boarder e-Climate policy advocacy group is at COP 28 lobbying for additional financing from global leaders for least developed economies in Africa ,As part of their activism, they are planning to launch a campaign dubbed‘’ switch on Africa, it’s an energy campaign, Seeking to increase electricity uptake in Africa by over 10% in the next 10 years. They are asking an increase in funding for African governments from international donors to make this possible.

This comes as African nations are being pushed towards adoption of clean energy options to reduce further climate crisis.

Part of the campaign is the energy mix, asking for clean and renewable energy. In our interview with Patricia , she stated that Ugandan’s use electricity for any other need but not cooking because cost are still high. ‘’We want the accessibility to be enabled through the government of Uganda. Key issues on the transition is the concern around safety and the behavioral change aspects around the transition from charcoal to LPG’’ . –added partricia.

This campaign will be run through key stakeholders in the energy value chain. The organization was started March 2023.
