The donation comes at a time that the hospital’s Antenatal Unit is grappling with lack of proper waiting shed to support expectant women seeking antenatal care services.

Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony on Friday afternoon Dr Florence Oyella, the Deputy Gulu Regional Referral Hospital Director, has welcomed the support saying it is a timely support  that is going along in improving maternal health services in the region.

”As a hospital we extend our heartfelt appreciation to UDB for their generous contribution of Ushs. 35 million towards the construction of a much-needed waiting shade for our patients and the donation of 200 Mama kits for new and expectant mothers in our maternity ward. This initiative reflects UDB’commitment to the well-being of the community and will significantly enhance the comfort and experience of those seeking medical care at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital.” She said.

Oyella added that with this contribution, they will now aim at fostering the government’s 2040 Vision of ensuring Uganda has a productive population that effectively contributes to the socio-economic growth which can be achieved if there is access and provision of quality health care to all people in Uganda.

Grace Freedom Kwiyucwiny, the State Minister for Northern Uganda, has thanked Uganda Development Bank for supporting the government by providing funds towards the establishment of a waiting shed that  will improve the provision of quality  maternal health services in the region.

Patricia Ojongole, the Executive director Uganda Development Bank , said the donation is part of their social corporate responsibility adding that as a banking institution they thought it wise to support the hospital so that it is able to provide the much needed maternal services to expectant mothers.

Gulu Regional Referral Hospital delivers 11,000 mothers on an annual basis.
