Gulu: Teco Health Centre III in Wii-Layibi Cell, Bar-dege-Layibi Division, Gulu City has missed out on UGX 2billion allocated to the facility for its elevation to health Centre IV due to inadequate space for expansion.
The UGX 2 billion was meant for the construction of a theatre, laboratory, mortuary, neonatal unit and staff houses and expansion of Out Patient Department (OPD) among others.
But the facility is sitting on a 1.5-acre piece of land, yet they need needs close to 2 acres of land for its expansion.
Ojara Martine Mapenduzi, the Member of Parliament Bar-dege-Layibi Division, said the facility was among the health facilities government allocated funds for their elevation to health IV in the financial 20223/24 but due to inadequate space Teco’s money was diverted to other districts.
Ojara tasked the local leaders and the town clerk to engage the community neighboring the health facility so that they allocate more land to Gulu City for its expansion.
Innocent Ahimbisibwe, the Gulu City Town Clerk, said they are doing everything possible to acquire land for Teco health Centre III so that it is elevated.
Teco Health Centre III serves a population of 45,000 people in Gulu City.
